May 2026
Greetings,
April brings May flowers! I was at first definitely thinking of writing about those sprouts and seeds on the top of all our minds this time of year. Is it too early to direct sow my squash? Will my delicate tomato seedlings be okay? All of which are very good questions, with the answer being, take your time and don’t be in a hurry, without somehow protecting them from possible frost. However, my lateness with the May newsletter is due partially to being busy as a bee with helping to organize and attend May events.
The first weekend was the Fourth Annual Northeast Mushroom Festival in Kettle Falls, Washington, a family-friendly event with loads of fun and educational opportunities. An experienced mushroom forager led a foray that was both educational and part of a contest. Guest lecturers taught about mushrooms’ beneficial characteristics and how to find them. A plethora of local and regional vendors were available, selling both wellness products and beautiful nature-focused art. As the name implies, there’s a great chance that there will be a Fifth Annual Northeast Mushroom Festival, and event organizers in the Inland Northwest Permaculture Guild have a desire to make each year better as the festival continues.
Next, I attended the Global Earth Repair Convergence (GERC) at beautiful Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, Washington, and was rewarded with cutting-edge, heart-forward programming. I was glad to learn from World leaders and experts in Global Earth Repair presented the newest information in permaculture. The heart forward programming was led by artists and Indigenous peoples from around the world, not only sharing stories of Mother Earth in all her forms; but also what action environmentally is being taken by tribal biologists and thought leaders.
These two paragraphs in no way come close to summarizing the events, and I invite you to peruse the shared links and look for more information from both the Inland Northwest Permaculture Guild and the Global Earth Repair Foundation. I also invite you to take a look at the events happening the rest of this summer and fall.
